Amount: £124,560 grant
Approved: 2016
Status: Funding complete

Giroscope brings long-term empty properties into use to provide affordable tenancies in Hull as permanent homes to people in housing need. These tenants include young people, ex-offenders, people living in hostels or threatened with homelessness, people on benefits or in low paid work and other vulnerable or marginalised people.

Funding from the Nationwide Foundation went towards the renovation of nine long-term empty houses in west Hull. Throughout the project, Giroscope provided volunteer opportunities to disadvantaged and hard-to-reach people. The project improved volunteers’ employability by teaching them new skills, offering them meaningful work experience and improving their confidence and motivation.

The Nationwide Foundation’s grant was used for some of the costs of refurbishment and volunteer training and development.
