Invitation to Submit an Expression of Interest

We are now focusing on the first aim of the Supporting Families programme, which is:

Domestic Violence

To promote the well being of young men, women and children whose lives have been affected by domestic violence. To reduce the prevalence of domestic violence through increased service provision, education and raising awareness.

The objects of this aim are to take a preventative approach and:

  • to support young victims of domestic violence in rebuilding their lives through supporting services such as housing, counselling and skills training
  • to promote and improve educational and counselling services available to children who have experienced / witnessed domestic violence
  • to address the specific issues surrounding BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) groups and domestic violence through the provision of relevant services
  • to reduce and prevent domestic violence through education and awareness-raising in schools, and the running of perpetrator treatment programmes

In particular, we are interested in supporting the following types of work / projects:

  • enabling young people to leave abusive relationships safely
  • helping young victims of domestic violence find safe, short and long term housing
  • assisting young people who have left abusive relationships to access suitable health, counselling, financial and employment services
  • services for BME groups experiencing domestic violence
  • counselling for children who have been the victims of domestic violence, or who have witnessed the effects
  • education for children who have been moved out of their homes and/or school as a result of domestic violence
  • provision of safe contact arrangements between children and the abusive parent (where appropriate)
  • services for young abusive partners who want to change their offending behaviour to reduce domestic violence
  • education programmes in schools which will prevent young people developing attitudes that lead them to accept or perpetrate domestic violence
  • research into the above the above types of work to establish its benefits, impact and areas for future improvement
