The Nationwide Foundation
The Nationwide Foundation is a registered charity, set up and funded by the Nationwide Building Society. We make grants to other charities across the UK, including Northern Ireland, within criteria defined by our Board of Trustees, who run the Foundation assisted by our staff team.
We aim to achieve maximum impact with our funds and therefore define our criteria based on research into societal needs and gaps in provision supported by other funders including government. In line with this, we review our criteria every few years.
The Foundation is dedicated to supporting charities as effectively as possible and so we have applied feedback from charities into the way we work. For example, we have:
- streamlined application processes
- light touch monitoring processes
- are proud to support core costs, which charities cannot function without, and which we see as being innovative as many other funders do not support these costs.
The Foundation has a history of offering support to those most in need in the UK.
We have a legacy of encouraging charities which work in the same fields to work in partnership with one another to:
- share experience and learning
- identify ways of reducing duplication to save valuable charitable resource
- achieve greater outcomes for their beneficiaries e.g. through signposting them to one another's services, to forming awareness raising projects together.
The grants we currently make are in support of work related to financial inclusion and housing.
